Site Surveys
The aim of all survey work is to gather sufficient information in order to provide the best solution to the problem, whatever the area. To do this, the information has to be as accurate and complete as possible. For this reason, all our work is measurement based. All our equipment is fully calibrated and our test methods fully traceable to international standards.
Our Investigations on Compressed Air cover the following areas as standard:
Generation:We performance test compressors at site to ISO 1217 or PTC10. We have tested all types and configurations including centrifugal, piston, oil injected and oil free rotary screw compressors. We find large variations in actual versus rated outputs and efficiencies and are able to suggest selected actions to improve and save energy with individual machines and the overall control strategy. |

Air treatment systems:We find many problems are caused by filtration and air drying systems creating excessive pressure drops and loss of capacity due to air purging. We can accurately measure these to determine how clients can achieve improvements and consequent cost reduction from these systems. We are able to measure and record the dewpoint of compressed air and determine its quality in terms of contaminants such as oil, particulates, microbial burden and atmospheric pollutants. |
DistributionBy use of non-disruptive insertion methods we install turbine flow meters and pressure transducers in live mains. The outputs from these devices are fed to recorders to measure and record the actual plant and individual departmental compressed air usage, leakage rates and pressure variations 24 hours a day. Pressure recorders are also installed at the far ends of the system to determine system pressure drops. This information is used to identify problems and recommend selected actions for improvements. |

Use and misuseWe measure individual process air requirements and where possible suggest methods to reduce misuse of compressed air. Base leakage rates are measured and using ultrasonic equipment, a survey of the site enables individual leakages to be identified and targeted. Where appropriate, other recommendations for methods of reduction are made. |
Other AreasOur equipment and work methods are very flexible and we also carry out flow, pressure and power measurement on other systems e.g. low pressure blowers and fans, water systems, vacuum systems and inert gas systems. As a progression to this work we are currently extending our services to cover total site energy audits. These cover not only the systems mentioned but also the boiler plant and heating and lighting systems. |
